 "G. Whiz!" Blog
Thursday, 31 January 2008

I just wrapped up my sermon "Putting Repentance in Its Place" at Eagle Rock Baptist Church in Idaho Falls.  It was the first time I had delivered this message although it certainly won't to be the last.  In fact, the LORD has given me a vision to make this message a staple for the year 2008 and beyond whenever the opportunity arises to preach.  The primary purpose is to help Christians sort out the difficult doctrines surrounding the highly volatile and greatly misunderstood "Lordship salvation" debate among evangelical Protestants.

I prefaced my message with the hope that it would answer more questions than it raised—mission accomplished, but not without at least a few questions.  One young man approached me and shared that he had been a long-time follower of Christ, even throughout his five years in the U.S. Marines, when afterwards he fell away from his faith.  A number of years had elapsed before he faithfully recommitted his life to Christ—that was five years ago.  During these five years he was haunted by certain NT Scriptures that appeared to pose the impossibility of believers being restored to a relationship with Christ after having shipwrecked their faith.  Hebrews 6:4-6; 10:26-27 and 2 Peter 2:20-22 were chief among them.  I sent my exposition in the PDF file below to this young man.  It represents my interpretation of these difficult passages to the best of my understanding.  I humbly admit that I may have missed the bull's eye, but am confident I at least hit his head.

Charis kai eirene (Grace and peace), Mike

This is a fantastic tool to help those who come under the attack of fear about their salvation. Thank you Mike, for your faithfulness and hard work in teaching the body of Christ on these very difficult passages!!!

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15 NIV)
