 Apologetics Internship & Mission (A.I.M.)
Tyler at Eagle Rock Baptist Church after preaching his very first sermon.

A.I.M. Internships

Apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia and differs significantly from evangelizing which comes from the Greek word euangelizo.  Generally speaking, to evangelize means to share the Gospel.  Apologetics, on the other hand, means to give a reasoned defense of the Gospel.  A.I.M. is specifically designed to expose senior high and college-age Evangelicals to the rigors of apologetics to Latter-day Saints by offering both part-time and full-time internships.

A.I.M is currently offered in June and July and is headquartered in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  Out-of-area interns are responsible for their own transportation and food; lodging, however, is provided by the A.I.M. hosts.  Although A.I.M. is a volunteer internship the experience to be gained is priceless!

"The AIM Internship has been the most life-changing thing I have ever done. Now, more than ever, I see that there is one Christ and one Way to salvation through the biblical Gospel.  We are here to give praise to God, and sharing our faith with others is one, if not the best, way to praise Him for the salvation He brings to us."

A.I.M. Training

A.I.M. interns will first and foremost be equipped to understand the essential differences between the LDS and evangelical doctrines of God, Jesus and the Gospel.  Effective witnessing strategies are combined with these doctrinal studies to prepare A.I.M. interns for their in-the-trenches apologetics mission to Latter-day Saints.  A.I.M. interns will also be given opportunities to help teach and train their fellow interns and peers.  The bulk of the training is conducted by STS Founder and Director, Mike Ghiglia.  Former Mormons, Joel Peterson and pastor Ken Parker of Covenant Bible Church in Rexburg serve as adjunct teachers.   The A.I.M. teaching team is committed to honing the apologetic skills of each and every A.I.M. intern while stressing the absolute importance of maintaining Christ-like conduct when witnessing.

A.I.M. Research

A.I.M. interns will also be exposed to the world of apologetics research.  This is one of the most time consuming aspects of apologetics ministry and therefore one of the most valuable ways A.I.M. interns may assist Mike Ghiglia.  LDS General Authorities and scholars publish volumes of literature that help to clarify and interpret essential LDS doctrine and attempt to refute core evangelical beliefs.  As A.I.M. interns conduct their research they will be expected to identify key LDS arguments and biblical proof texts so that Mike may assimilate them into both their training and the MLBS Bible Study.

A.I.M. Mission

The final thrust of A.I.M. is our outreach to students of BYU-Idaho and residents of Rexburg.  Being that A.I.M. is a 4-week program it gives interns a depth of experience that is not available on our short-term M2M program for high school students.  If M2M whets the appetite for apologetics to Latter-day Saints, then A.I.M. is the feast.  Another difference is that because A.I.M. interns are senior high and college age, they are given more independence to challenge the boundaries of their comfort zones when witnessing.  All in all the Apologetics Internship and Mission with STS Ministries is a well-rounded experience that pays big dividends in building one's faith!

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15 NIV)
