 BYU-Idaho Mission to Mormons (M2M)

M2M Outreach

Share the Son Ministries hosted its first BYU-Idaho mission trip in February of 2006 by teaming up with the Missions Department at Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) in Kentucky.  BYU-Idaho is located in the city of Rexburg thirty minutes north of STS headquarters in Idaho Falls.  We believe Rexburg, which is over ninety-percent LDS, is fertile ground for outreach opportunities.  M2M is the perfect venue for church groups and Christian schools to help students fulfill "the Great Commission."  Contact Mike Ghiglia for more information.

"The Bible teaches that we are to be doers of the Word, not just hearers.  During our short stay in Idaho Falls, Banner students were able to put into practice not only what they have learned in school and church, but also gained wisdom and understanding from Mike and the STS Ministry about reaching the LDS community.  Our students were challenged, stretched and their faith was tested in a way that cannot be simulated in a classroom.  Banner students are excited about being witnesses for Christ and to soon return to Idaho Falls to continue the STS Ministry.  Thanks again Mike for a wonderful experience."

"We do several national and international mission trips with our student body each year and I believe the Mission to Mormons trip is our most effective.  The training is intense and the expectation level is very high.  Not only are the students mentally prepared, but to truly be able to minister to people we must first love them.  Loving Latter-day Saints is our highest priority!"

Former Director of Missions, Christian Academy of Louisville

M2M Missionaries

The BYU-Idaho mission is currently limited to high school students only, while our long-term Apologetics Internship and Mission (A.I.M.) program is open to senior-high and college students.  We have found that BYU-Idaho is the ideal setting for young missionaries to cut their teeth on Christian apologetics (defending the faith).  Furthermore, BYU students seem more receptive to interacting with missionaries who are closer to their own age than with older adults.

Each M2M missionary brings with him his own set of fears, expectations, and abilities.  Actively participating in and/or leading discussions with Latter-day Saints is strictly voluntary.  No one goes it alone and no one returns without having his faith radically changed.

M2M Training

The vast majority of male BYU students have already served two-year missions abroad.  Some of the female BYU students have served shorter missions.  The training these fine young men and women receive in church, at the LDS Missionary Training Centers, and especially on their missions, prepares them to confidently share their beliefs with Evangelicals.  Therefore, it is necessary that all M2M missionaries be adequately equipped to face the challenges of discussing and defending their faith with BYU students.

Although a good deal of training occurs during the mission trip, the majority of it takes place beforehand and for this Mike Ghiglia has specifically designed M2M Boot Camp.  M2M Boot Camp makes use of the M2M witnessing manual, PowerPoint presentations, and a variety of other training tools to aid the person(s) leading the training.  When available, Mike may lead portions of M2M Boot Camp himself.

Finally, the most important aspect of M2M training is our unwavering commitment to conduct that is honoring to Christ when witnessing.  The "7 Cs" of M2M training are as follows: cool, calm, collected, courteous, compassionate, courageous, and Christ-like.

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15 NIV)
